Our work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOROur Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is hiring a talented, motivated and proactive Junior Research Associate in Data Management and HPC to work in the Advanced Scientific Computing division in the framework of the PNRR HPC SPOKE 4 project.Workplace location: LecceROLEThe Junior Research Associate is responsible for supporting research activities in Data Management and HPC.RESPONSABILITIESThe Junior Research Associate will be involved in the:
- Development and improvement of data managent solutions and strategies for handling heterogenous climate/environmental data sources;
- Drafting of scientific reports and technical documentation related to the developed solutions.
- M.Sc. degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent fields
- 3+ years’ experience in scientific software development and parallel programming
- Excellent knowledge of C/Fortran and Python programming language
- Good knowledge of data management systems, and DBMS design
- Good knowledge of data delivery technologies and platforms (e.g. ERDDAP)
- Parallel programming with MPI of scientific codes for heterogenous HPC architectures
- Experience with HPC systems
- Relevant experience with scripting languages like Bash and Python
- Experience in complex software development and software version control systems (e.g. Git)
- Experience with Linux environment;
- Knowledge of Python scientific libraries and tools for data analysis (i.e., numpy, pandas, Jupyter notebooks);
- Knowledge of NetCDF data formats and related tools;
- Fluency in both written and spoken English language
- Based on the duration of the employment contract, without prejudice to any changes in organisation and/or career paths and downstream of the performance appraisal.
- The appointment is assigned following:
- internal selection;
- external selection in the event that there are no internal candidates, or they are assessed as unsuitable.
- The appointment period will be initially of 12° months starting from July 2024.
- The gross annual salary range is from 28K to 35K Euros, depending on qualification and working experience.
