In this context, the Microsystems Technology (MST) Research Unit of the Center for Sensors and Devices (SD) deals with design and fabrication of microsystems, microdevices and sensors, consistently with the Foundation's objectives.
More information about the Center for Sensors and Devices (SD) can be found at https://sd.fbk.eu.Planned activities
The Microsystems Technology Research Unit of the Center for Sensors and Devices is looking for a young student interested in carrying out a master thesis (or an internship + master thesis) experience in the field of chipless microwave sensors. The ideal candidate is a proactive and dynamic student with good organizational and interpersonal skills, a strong interest on engineering, modelling, and technology development and, of course, motivated to have a training experience within an international research context. The internship/master thesis will focus on the development of an emerging microwave sensing technology, completely chip-less and battery-less, known as chipless radio-frequency identification (RFID) sensors. The research line is of great interest for the MST Research Unit as these sensors are strategic in an IoT/IoE ecosystem given their passive functionality and wireless readability. Strong knowledge of electromagnetic (EM) propagation principles and of advanced materials is a key enabling factor for the development of this technology. The student will mainly contribute to the development of some of the following activities: analysis on the state-of-the-art of the technology design and electromagnetic simulation for a preliminary numerical validation of the sensor nodes fabrication, characterization and EM experimental assessment of sensors sensor tests under controlled environmental parameters signal and sensor data post-processing
Candidate will be supported by the FBK-MST research team during his/her internship/master thesis.Requirements Enrolled in Master's degree in Information and Communications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent Basic knowledge on design and electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g. Keysight ADS, ANSYS HFSS, or FEKO) Good knowledge on electromagnetic theory and wireless propagation principles Basic programming skills for signal and data post-processing Good knowledge of either Italian or English language (both spoken and written)
