Offer DescriptionMitochondrial status in cystic fibrosis (CF) airway cells has a crucial role in the exaggerated pro-inflammatory response, following bacterial infection, in CF lung pathology both in-vitro and in-vivo. These findings suggest that the mitochondrial function may modulate the inflammatory environment and thus the airway-immune crosstalk through mitochondria-derived vesicles (MDVs) release. Exacerbation of inflammatory responses could be due to the immunomodulatory effects of MDVs generated from CF airway cells with altered mitochondria. The mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) is the supramolecular entity that triggers the mitochondrial permeability transition, the event that induces mitochondrial dysfunction in several degenerative and inflammatory-related diseases. The project will aim to determine whether mPTP formation pharmacologically manipulated would have key roles in modulating MDVs release and/or cargo signals in CF airway cells.RequirementsAdditional InformationEligibility criteriato apply for research grants fill out the form available at the following address:Eligible destination country/ies for fellows:
