
Environmental Data Scientist

- Gathering relevant field data from existing data bases covering European and selected non-European waters;
- Developing tools to read these data (in their various formats), detect errors and organize them in a consistent data set;
- Developing tools to analyse, harmonize, quality-check and visualize these data;
- Supporting the processing of Earth Observation data;
- Supporting the assessment of Earth Observation data with the collected field data in hindcast mode;
- Supporting the preparation of the project near-real-time experiment
- At least 3 years of specific expertise in:
- Python programming
- Unix environment
- Management of data in various formats (e.g., csv, NetCDF, Shapefile …).
- The field of data management and analysis;
- At least 2 years of specific expertise in statistical analysis of data.
- Expertise in the management, processing and analysis of geospatial data (e.g., Earth observation satellite data, spatial model outputs);
- Experience in other programming languages (IDL, R…), machine learning applied to data and in environmental sciences.
- Expertise is requested to large data sets, preferably in the field of Earth/environmental sciences, remote sensing applications or modelling
- Expertise requested in working in a Linux environment;
- Sound knowledge of tools and software for the management, processing and analysis of geospatial data (e.g., spatially-distributed in-situ data, Earth observation satellite data, spatial model outputs);
- Capacity for planning and taking initiative in an IT environment applied to scientific endeavors;
- Good English level requested for reporting and software documentation;
