- Interpret part drawings and materials and special processes specifications.
- Define drawing requirements for automotive gearbox, axles components and sub-systems.
- Drawing review and approval for materials and special processes.
- Create and maintain databases and pursue standardization.
- Perform technical reviews for product design and manufacturing process (internal or supplier) for new products and process/supplier changes.
- Review and evaluate engineering change requests.
- Interpret test results, write reports and effectively communicate with cross-functional teams.
- Provide materials engineering support for requests from engineering, manufacturing, suppliers and customers (e.g. experimental investigations, material characterization studies or literature review, etc).
- Support materials and processes specifications release and maintenance.
- Support in defining of product validation requirements, process controls and test plans.
- Support Product Development teams with regards to materials selection and application needs, problem solving, failure analysis and preventive risk mitigation planning.
- Support material testing and failure analysis of components submitted for inspections.
- Coordinate outsourced testing as needed.
- Responsible for completing other tasks as assigned
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Materials Science. May consider equivalent education and experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in materials engineering. Transmission design and manufacturing are preferred.
- As a plus, previous experience in companies from the automotive or aviation/aerospace industry, dealing with heat treating of ferrous/non-ferrous alloys, forging of ferrous/non-ferrous alloys, bearings or gears manufacturing.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and heat treatments; non-ferrous metals preferred.
- Ability to read design drawings and materials and special processes specifications.
- Knowledge of material testing techniques.
- Proficient in use of computer technology, including Microsoft Office products and other software applications.
- Fluent English.
- Knowledge of welding, plastics, elastomers, adhesives, paints, corrosion and lubricants
- Sample preparation and metallographic examination, hardness testing, chemical analysis, photo documentation.
- Meticulous and detailed-oriented approach is essential.
