Junior Research Associate on Soil Carbon

Our work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOROur Institute for Climate Resilience (ICR) is hiring a talented, motivated and proactive post-degree associate to work in the division Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services (IAFES), located. Workplace location: any of CMCC offices.ROLEThe successful applicant will support the group in conducting research on climate change mitigation, with focus on the role of soils for the provision of ecosystem services, including soil organic carbon dynamics and the interlinkage with water. According to expertise and skills, the researcher will be involved in international projects, scientific publications, and support the acquisition of new funds.RESPONSIBILITIESThe junior research associate will:
  • Support in conducting research with focus soil carbon and biogeochemical dynamics in relations to the overall carbon cycle, in particular about synergistic effects and possible trade-offs within ecosystems.
  • Support the development of research activities on interacting soil and water in the context of climate change.
  • Support the group in ongoing project activities, which include publishing new findings and providing policy recommendations at different scales.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A degree in topics dealing with soil or ecosystem sciences, agroecology, hydrology, including interactions with carbon, water and climate dynamics;
  • Experience in supporting/conducting research activities;
  • A very good knowledge of the English language;
  • Strong communication skills in written form for both specialized and non-specialized audience;
  • An empathetic, teamwork oriented and inclusive attitude.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Based on the duration of the employment contract, without prejudice to any changes in organisation and/or career paths and downstream of the performance appraisal;
  • The appointment is assigned following:
  • internal selection;
  • external selection in the event that there are no internal candidates, or they are assessed as unsuitable;
  • The appointment period will be initially of n° 12 months starting from July 2024, renewable for additional months pending a positive evaluation. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher;
  • The gross annual salary will be based on qualification and working experience;

  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
